Three runs in three days. The self-evolution pipeline is verified end-to-end on local hardware, the empire fleet is self-monitoring, and the Finn loop is ready to ship its first issue. This is the working dispatch — the numbers, the verdict, the manifests, and the next four hours of work.

The architecture is the same one we sketched in Vol 01: an autonomous loop that takes a skill, runs the optimization pass, validates against a held-out baseline, and either ships the patch or holds. What changed between Vol 01 and Vol 03 is everything that lives around the loop — the cron health, the kanban health, the watchdog, the webhook recovery, and the empire-grade observability that lets the loop know whether the world it ships into is still the world it expected.

The empire no longer waits for a human to notice that a service has fallen over. It notices, it rolls, it logs, and the operator reads the diff the next morning over coffee.

The evolution verdict

Three runs in three days. The pipeline is verified end-to-end:

Local Ornith 35B cannot find Pareto improvements on well-structured skills via MIPROv2. The pattern holds across three runs. The lesson is structural: a 35B local model lacks the surface area to find creative reframings of skills that are already well-written. The right next move is to defer to a frontier cloud model (Grok 4.5 is the named successor; billing is the only blocker), and to continue manual skill authoring — four skills this session alone — until the cloud run is unblocked.

Next: defer to cloud model once Grok billing lands. Manual skill authoring continues, in parallel, at the rate of four per session.

What shipped

A non-exhaustive manifest of artifacts produced during the three-hour build window. Each item is a working system, not a stub.

The four next clicks

The empire is up. Self-monitoring. Self-evolving at the cron layer. The four clicks that remain are about reaching the next plateau — moving from watching itself to securing itself, and from evolving locally to evolving in the cloud.

  1. Cloudflare dashboard — security headers

Four CF dashboard clicks unblock empire-grade security headers (HSTS + CSP + X-Frame + Permissions-Policy) across all 9 b3rt.dev subdomains. Total time: 5 minutes. Total payoff: 9 sites go from 7/10 to 10/10 on the OWASP header score.

  2. Sparkling Solutions DNS

Two DNS edits turn the sparklingsolutions.biz domain into a clean 10/10. The records are staged in Cloudflare; the activation is a single click.

  3. Grok 4.5 billing

Add a credit card to the xAI console. Unlocks cloud evolution runs, which are the only path to Pareto improvements on well-structured local skills.

  4. Finn loop — issue #1

Open the first Finn loop issue. The agent-claim pipeline is wired; the loop has been validated against three real skill-augmentation tasks in dry-run mode. The first shipped issue is the moment the loop proves itself in production.
